Australian Horsemanship is delighted to be sponsoring the UK U16 Polocrosse team in their upcoming test matches against New South Wales, South Africa and Ireland. The seven juniors playing as a squad and three reserve players will each receive a saddle cloth, horse rug, playing bandages and bell boots as part of the sponsorship.
This is the first time that Australian Horsemanship has sponsored an international squad and we hope that it will be an ongoing relationship with this talented and dedicated group of young players who are being coached by UK International player, Debbie Harris. After last weekend’s training weekend, Debbie is very pleased with the team’s progress, “We have some very experienced and talented players who are working really well with those new to the squad. Although we still have lots to learn, I believe they have a real chance of winning these test matches against some of the top juniors in the world.” Captain, Katie Newbrook, sees the test matches as a challenge that they are all looking forward to, “We know it’s going to be a hard task but we can’t wait to play! Travelling our horses to Ireland and meeting players our own age from around the world is going to be an amazing experience. The support from our sponsors has made the trip achievable and we look forward to wearing our Australian Horsemanship kit with pride!”
Although polocrosse takes a back seat to Jason’s horse training business, the sport remains a big part of his ‘leisure time’! After Jason gained UK Citizenship in 2008 he played regularly for the UK, including captaining the team at last year’s Polocrosse World Cup where his sister and brother in law were representing Australia. Jason explains, “Polocrosse has been an incredibly important part of my life – I first came to the UK to coach polocrosse when I met my future wife, so I have a lot to thank the sport for! So when we saw how dedicated this group of young players were and how hard they were working to secure sponsorship for a tour that involves the expense of transporting 20 horses to Ireland, we jumped at the chance to support them. I thoroughly believe that they represent a bright future for English polocrosse and I am really looking forward to watching them this summer.”
You can find out more about polocrosse and follow the progress of the squad via www.polocrosse.org.uk and we will provide regular updates on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. If you would like to find out more about sponsoring the team, please contact their Manager, Mandy Williams at mandyuku16polox@hotmail.co.uk. The first test match between the UK and New South Wales takes place on the 7/8th July in Mollington, Chester, before travelling over the Irish Sea to face Ireland and South Africa on the 14/15th July.
